Title: Erysolin as an inducer of antioxidants in cardiac cells
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Yunbo Li , Pharmaceutical Sciences

The incidence of cardiotoxicity induced by doxorubicin is very high. Generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cardiomyocytes causes the toxicity. Erysolin, isothiocyanate derived from cruciferous vegetables is an analogue of sulforaphane. Erysolin works efficiently to reduce ROS by inducing antioxidants and phase II enzymes without hindering the cancer killing activity of doxorubicin, it can be administered along with doxorubicin to reduce the risk of cardiac injury. This study targets to bring to light two properties of erysolin, (i) cardioprotective nature in H9C2 rat cardiomyocytes and (ii) chemosensitizer for potentiating doxorubicin’s cancer cell killing in B16-F10 melanoma cell line.
