Title: Evaluation of prescribing patterns pre- and post-label change for antidepressants with a FDA black box warning for young adults
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Wesley Rich , Public Health

In 2007, the FDA released a black box warning for 36 antidepressants stating that the prescribers use careful consideration in prescribing these drugs to individuals aged 18-24 years because of increased suicidal ideality and behaviors. The objective was to evaluate the prescriber patterns and determine if there was a change in prescription rate for these 36 drugs. The type of provider seen does not determine the likelihood of getting prescribed an antidepressant nor did the prescription rate change. Prescriber’s non-adherence to the FDA black box warning may put young adults at an increased risk of having suicidal ideations and behaviors.
