Title: Pectralis Major Tear in a Division I Collegiate Lineman
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Sarah Christie , Exercise Science

"Background: A twenty-three-year-old male collegiate defensive lineman presented with left shoulder pain after having his left arm in abduction and external rotation while going to tackle his opponent. Simultaneously another player hit him posteriorly forcing his arm into a greater range of motion. Treatment: Patient was diagnosed with a right pectoralis major tear and underwent a surgical repair of the pectoralis musculature. Uniqueness: Pectoralis major tears commonly occur with an eccentric contraction when the arm is pushed into excessive abduction, normally while bench pressing. Conclusion: Health care providers must recognize the signs and symptoms, so that the patient can receive the best possible care. "
