Title: Cloning Promoter Region of Human CHMP3 Gene
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Taek You , Biology

CHMP3 is a protein component of the core unit of ESCRT-III, a membrane complex that aids in multi-vesicular body formation and protein sorting for recycling of endosomes. Dysfunctions in this recycling process are implicated in certain cellular diseases including cancer. The CHMP3 gene is upregulated by the p53 tumor suppressor gene. ESCRT complexes participate in endosomal recycling of epidermal growth factor receptor, which is overexpressed in some cancers. The promoter region of human CHMP3 gene is cloned and expressed to study the endosomal recycling process for cellular components, which can then be studied for other endosomal activities in the cell.
