Title: Energizers & Calminizers: Short Activity Bursts for Elementary School Students
Developed under the guidance of Dr. Michelle Green and Dr. Angela Griffin , Physical Therapy
With the growing prevalence of childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyle in & out of the classroom, our responsibilities as physical therapists include preventative approaches to promote long-term health and wellness. The aim of our project was to create a positive effect in classroom participation, scholastic achievement, and the health of elementary school-aged children (grades K-5) by implementing a regular activity break program throughout the school day. We hoped to achieve this by educating teachers on the importance of utilizing a break program tailored towards their curriculum consisting of Energizers and Calminizers, which have been shown in literature to be effective.
